1. Masai Spitting
Masai Tribe is known to be living in parts of Tanzania and Kenya . They have a very bizarre tradition of greeting each other on religious holidays by spitting on each other. along with this strange tradition men of this tribe take a new born into their arms and spit on it repeatedly. Behind this action is the belief that if they don’t do this the child will be on the receiving end of some bad luck for the rest of his life.

Yanomamö tribe belong to parts of Brazil and Venezuela . They stay away from modern life and stick to their traditions such as when any person in their families die, they burn the dead body and then eat the ashes.

This tradition is followed by Aghoris and this also delve into the practice of cannibalism. They live completely on cremation grounds and use only the resources present there to sustain themselves.
6. Satere-Mawe Initiation Rite
The young boys belonging to this tribe are asked by their elders to wear a glove. This glove is inserted and covered with drugged bullet ants which have terribly painful stings. Boys can remove it only after 10 minutes and they have to repeat this ritual annually till their families ask them to stop doing that.
7. Living with the Dead
An ethnic group of Indonesia follows this tradition. These people wrap up the dead body of the person immediately after his/her death and keep the dead body in the house with them. They follow the belief that this preserves the soul of the person who remains in the body till the body is buried.In the image below,you can see that a family in Indonesia is following the same tradition and has kept the body of the dead woman for a long time to preserve her soul.
8. Mourning of Muharram
On Husain Ibn Ali’s death anniversary, a group of Shia Muslims go into streets with whips attached with knives and blades and beat themselves up repeatedly. It, no doubt, seems cruel but these people have been participating in it voluntarily generation after generation to show their love and grief for their loved ones.

Families living in Sholapur in India follow this tradition. They take their babies till the terrace of 50 foot tower and throw them off. People stand down the tower holding sheets and they have to catch the baby safely. This gives them assurance of the health and safety of their babies.
